Since June, South Fayette library books have been going back to the South Fayette Township Municipal Center at 100 Township Drive. It sits diagonally up the hill from the Watson Institute, on the old El Rancho drive-in site along Hickory Grade Road. Anyone who still drives to Millers Run Road out of habit finds a fence.
The library is only part of the change. Since June, and for what is expected to be about a year of construction, much of the township's indoor civic life has been spread across a lodge hall, a fire company, and one shared room on Hickory Grade Road. Getting through fall 2026 comes down to knowing which room hosts what, and on which night.
The fence on Millers Run Road
The former municipal building, library and senior center at 515 Millers Run Road is under renovation. The township's June 26 notice says the whole site is fenced and closed, with no through-traffic. It also says all access to Morgan Park must come from Sherman Street. The township hasn't posted an update to that access notice since June, so Sherman Street is still the posted route.
The project is a $4.5 million renovation that will turn the building into the South Fayette Activity Center. The township's relocation announcement expected the work to take about a year. The library has since given a more specific target. Its temporary-location page says the new library should open in mid-2027.
Neither the library nor the senior group belongs to the township government. The township describes both as independent groups that use township-owned buildings. When the building closed, each group had to find its own space for the year, and that's why the map below looks scattered.
Where everything went
| Activity | Until June 2026 | Now | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| South Fayette Township Library | 515 Millers Run Road | Municipal Center, 100 Township Drive | Mon–Thu 10 a.m.–7 p.m.; Fri–Sat 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; closed Sunday |
| Senior bingo | 515 Millers Run Road | SNPJ Sygan Lodge 6, 540 3rd Avenue, Sygan Hill | Weekly Fridays, 12:30 p.m. |
| Senior luncheon | 515 Millers Run Road | Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, 1214 Oakridge Road | Third Monday of each month, 12:30 p.m. |
| Senior cards and games | 515 Millers Run Road | Municipal Center, 100 Township Drive | Check the senior group's schedule |
| Morgan Park | Reachable through the Millers Run site | Sherman Street only | No through-traffic on the construction site |
If your GPS has trouble with 100 Township Drive, both the township and the library list 323 Hickory Grade Road, 15017 as an alternate address.
So the library and senior cards and games now share the Municipal Center. Senior bingo has gone across town to Sygan Hill, and the monthly luncheon is at the Oak Ridge fire hall. Before June, all of these were in one building.
One room, many calendars
Inside the Municipal Center, the name that keeps coming up is the Lafayette Room. Some library programs list it as their location, and so do several township programs. These are its October bookings from both calendars.
- Wednesday, October 14: "Bro, Do You Even... Craft," a library program, runs 6:00–6:45 p.m. in the Lafayette Room. At 7 p.m., the township's "Girls Club - Growth and Development Classes" for grades 4–5 begins its Wednesday run there. It goes from 7 to 8:30 p.m. through November 11.
- Thursdays through November 12: "Stress & Tension Control w/ Dr. Bill" meets 6:30–7:30 p.m. in the Lafayette Room. The series began September 24.
- Tuesday, October 20: The township's "Puzzle Palooza: Halloween," 6:30–8:45 p.m. in the Lafayette Room.
- Wednesday, October 28: "Bro, Do You Even... Terrarium?" runs 6:00–6:45 p.m. in the Lafayette Room. Girls Club follows at 7.
Other library programs this month carry different location lines. The library calendar marks the Teen Advisory Board Forum on Friday, October 16, at 4:00 p.m. and "Mixed Media Pumpkin Decor" on Tuesday, October 27, at 6:00 p.m. as offsite events. The "Cookbook Club-What Can I Bring? Volume 2" on Monday, October 26, at 6:00 p.m. lists the library without naming a room.
The township calendar doesn't say its classes moved to the Municipal Center because of the renovation. They may have been booked there regardless. Either way, the library's teen crafts and the township's evening classes now book the same room on the same nights, sometimes back to back.
The library's fall season started September 14. Registration is open for children's, tween and teen, and adult programs, and the full schedule is in the Fall 2026 program page and brochure. The library says programs continue at the temporary site unless a listing says otherwise. Check the location line on each listing before you leave home.
What the temporary library can't do yet
The temporary branch offers less than the old one, and the library lists the gaps on its moving page:
- Copying and printing came back in an August 4 update.
- Faxing is still unavailable.
- Book donations aren't being accepted while the library is in temporary space.
- Returns can go in the outdoor book drop at the Municipal Center or to any Allegheny County library.
The no-donations rule matters most for anyone clearing shelves this fall. Fall is a common time to clean out a basement, but the boxes will have to wait or go somewhere else. Being able to return books at any Allegheny County library helps, too. If your errands take you to a neighboring branch, you can drop South Fayette books there instead of driving up Hickory Grade Road.
The rest of the fall runs outdoors and across town
The building closure doesn't touch the township's biggest fall events, because they were never held at Millers Run Road. They give October and November some fixed dates:
Haunted Harvest, Wednesday, October 28, 5–8 p.m. It's held at the Original Farmers Market, 151 Parks Road, with trunk-or-treat, pumpkin painting, marshmallow roasting and character meet-and-greets. Admission is free, but every child 12 and under needs a timed ticket. Residents have been able to reserve since October 1 at noon. Any tickets left open to nonresidents on Monday, October 26, at noon. The same Wednesday evening also has the library's terrarium program and Girls Club at the Municipal Center. A family with kids in more than one of those will be splitting the evening between Parks Road and Hickory Grade Road.
Trick-or-treat, Saturday, October 31, 6–8 p.m., across the township, according to the township's September 29 announcement.
Curbside leaf and yard-waste pickup, Saturdays, November 7, 14 and 21. Eligible households need to use biodegradable paper bags.
Caregiver support group, Wednesday, November 18, 6–7 p.m., at Celebration Villa, 3275 Washington Pike. The township calendar lists it as free.
What comes back to Millers Run Road in mid-2027
The renovation plan shows what all this temporary space is building toward. The Activity Center will be a 15,000-square-foot building, including a new 2,800-square-foot addition. The library's space will more than quadruple. Two flexible rooms totaling about 1,500 square feet will host some township recreation programs. The 3,000-square-foot space for senior activities and other programming will be refreshed.
Line those rooms up against the current map. The library, senior activities and recreation programs are the three things now spread across the Municipal Center, Sygan Hill and Oakridge Road, and the finished building will have dedicated space for each of them. The township's spring 2026 South Fayette Connect article includes a rendering of the planned front entrance by MS Consultants.
The township's capital reserve fund is paying for the project along with a $750,000 state Keystone Grant for Public Libraries. That grant covers about a sixth of the $4.5 million total. Once the work is done, the library and senior activities will move back to 515 Millers Run Road. Until mid-2027, the library is at 100 Township Drive, open until 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Morgan Park is reached from Sherman Street.
At Coulter & Castillo, we follow South Fayette's civic projects the same way we follow its market. When the Activity Center reopens on Millers Run Road, we'll write about what it adds for the streets around Morgan. If you have questions about the project or how it affects your part of the township, contact us. We're glad to talk it through.
